Michael Fassbender's Assassin's Creed Debuts First Poster

The graveyard of video game to movie adaptions is littered with the corpses of many valiant, but ultimately foolhardy, attempts. The fact no video game movie has ever achieved above 50% on RottenTomatoes.com might be a sign to some fans that the genre is irrevocably cursed. However, perhaps the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed movie can change things?
It is certainly seems to be one of the better supported video game adaptations we've seen to date. First and foremost, the film will contain some serious talent, including Macbeth starring-duo Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard and Macbeth and The Snowtown Murders director, Justin Kurzel.
Secondly, the game developer UbiSoft has apparently been present throughout the development, which hopefully means creative control hasn't completely been given over to film studio executives.
The first promotional poster for Assassin's Creed: The Movie (as it appears to be subtitled) certainly appears to stick to the traditions of the game. Although we're not treated to a hooded and booted Michael Fassbender, we do get the classic logo, font, as well as subtle sci-fi elements and an eagle. Check it out below:

Of course, in reality, this isn't a clear indication of how the finished film will look, especially considering filming has yet to start. This is merely a kind of placeholder poster to be used at conventions and the like. It most likely looks very similar to the game because the movie's promotional material has yet to be developed.
However, how close the movie will adhere to the principles of the game will certainly be a bone of contention among some Assassin's Creed fans. Personally, I'm hoping the film doesn't try to be the video game, because after all, we've got the video game game for that. It instead needs to be a nuanced retelling of the game's story, which will often require elements of the game to be stripped out. Remember, many game devices (such as eagle vision, hay stack dives and 'Da Vinci flying machines') are employed to aid the gameplay, and not the narrative.
In any case, the amount of talent behind the project is certainly something to get excited about, especially if Macbeth is as great as the trailer appears to suggest. Check that out below if you have yet to do so:
